U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcons and A-10A Thunderbolt II's deploy Kinematic IR flares as they surprise and enemy armored column returning to base. Thiokol Propulsion is conducting an independent research and development project to develop new infrared countermeasures to protect aircraft from the threat of ground-launched, heat-seeking missiles. a candidate concept is the Kinematic ("Fly-Along") IR Flare.
