| A
quick word about the Digital Medium and Digital Paintings
The modern desktop computer has brought about a new artist's medium...pixels. Virtually all of the art in the modern aerospace industry is now produced digitally. Digital pieces range from mere photo composites (digital photographs with rendered images placed into them) to true digital paintings completely visualized in the artist's mind and created in pixels. While high-end photo composites can be extremely striking as well as fulfill the job's requirements, they are not the same type of art as that created completely on the artist's canvas, real or digital. I never sign my photo composite illustrations as they are not complete paintings. There is no photo composite work on this Web site. I also never sign digital illustrations created by 3D software. While 3D software illustrations can be a tremendous amount of work, the primary image is created by the computer. Lighting, reflections, etc. are all created mathmatically by the software. Many hours are spent building parts, adjusting and adding lights, layering those differently lighted images in Photoshop, but I don't have to actually paint the image with a brush or a Wacom tablet and pen. Again, not the same type of art as that created completely on the canvas, real or digital. All of the Digital Paintings on this Web site are complete creations signed in the image. Note that some of my technical art pieces are labeled as "Digital Paintings" in the Technical Art section as they are complete paintings while some are created with 3D software, and labled as "Digital Illustrations". I will never sign in the image any 3D software created art or those composited with photographs. It does not make this type of work any less valuable to the industry. |
