A Rockwell International B-1B uses terrain masking to evade antiaircraft fire as its rotary launcher dispenses a Boeing AGM-69 Short Range Attack Missile (SRAM) against targets deep within a hypothetical enemy's territory. In addition to SRAM, the Thiokol-built graphite composite rotary launch tube allows the B-1B to carry a variety of free-fall weapons. Equipped with advanced avionics and terrain-following radar allowing it to follow the "nap of the earth" at near supersonic speeds. Artist's Note: The caption reflects the 1986 time frame. |
